Kisa Basketry Headdress

This realisation of a Kisa Basketry Headdress is based off of an illustration of an original headdress but made in such a way that it could withstand a stage production. With the base of the headdress made out of Varaform thermoplastic to create a sturdy base for the rest of the headdress to be built off of. The main frame of the headdress is made out of willow to keep the structural look in the illustration. As there is not much information around on this specific headdress I had to improvise. To create the feathers all down the side I ironed together two sheets of interfacing before painting them, creating the feather shaft with hot glue before attaching them, mixing in a few real feathers such as the ostrich feathers. Similarly with the faux fur I made sure to attach it in a way that it draped naturally.
